A Successful Christmas Vacation

- Enchanted (aubrey's choice, actually pretty funny)
- High School Musical 2 (aubrey's choice, this movie was awful)
- The Brady Bunch Movie (just as good as i remembered it, the girl who played Jan deserved an Oscar)
- Kill Bill (i love this movie)
- Tropic Thunder (i heart jack black & want him to make "The Fatties: Fart 2")

TV Show Marathons Ran:
- Summer Heights High (no offense, seriously OBSESSED. so random)

You're On A Chair In The Sky

As you can see by my recent posts I am amazed with the world right now. So is Louis CK.

I wish I was enjoying the miracle of human flight tomorrow instead of the human mistake that is the Megabus.

Better Than Fireworks

How kind of these birds to put on a magical show for us. Even more kind of them to keep it under 10 minutes.

Dolly Tranny Drag-Queen Action

I love Dolly Parton. Especially for what she did in the above video (a live recording for her album "Live and Well").

She is so freaking fabulous. More people should be like Dolly. Positive, inclusive, humble and shameless.

keepchicagolandmoving.com FAIL

I was so furious with the CTA today that I decided to send them a complaint. I went to the CTA website and noticed that there was link that said:

Questions about CTA funding? Click here for CTA funding information.

I thought, wow, that would be some interesting information. I'd LOVE to know where the CTA is putting their money (up their butts, clearly). This is great. Thanks, CTA...

*click*

and

PSYCH!

The link takes you to a "this domain is for sale" site!

Jokes on me! CTA was either all like, "muahahahah, these customers think that we'll just be transparent about our funding?! I don't think so! suckers. "

Or they were all like, "Shit. We can't even afford a website to talk about our poor financial management."

This. Explains. SO. MUCH.

Defending Discrimination FAIL

John Stewart does a kick-ass job here.

A couple things:

1. Huckabee says that this is in now way homophobia. If they're not restricting our rights out of fear than what are they doing it for? It is a form of homophobia because it boils down to a fear that gay people will, to quote Huckabee, "undo an entire social structure," or a fear that gay people will be bad for children. That's a fear of gay people. That's homophobia. Sorry. deal with it.

2. As far as "undoing an entire social structure," straight people will still be able to marry. The structure is still there. There is no undoing of anything.

3. Why are we still letting people get away with the argument: "Marriage means one man one woman." THAT IS NOT SATISFYING TO ME OR ANY RIGHT-MINDED PERSON! When you write a paper in school you have to defend what you're saying no matter how proven it is.

4. The better response to Huckabee saying "John, I just want you to know I'm not going to marry you," would have been, "Well, even if you wanted to you couldn't and that's fucked up."

Give It A Rest: "The Holidays Come Sooner Every Year"

Like three weeks ago I was sitting in a pizza shop off the brown line before rehearsal and the shop was decorated for the holidays and playing Christmas music. Considering it was well before Thanksgiving it reminded me of those people who complain that "every year people start celebrating the holidays sooner and sooner."

To those people I say: GIVE IT A REST.

I mean, please. You can complain about something starting too soon if it's unpleasant, but the Christmas season is probably the BEST FREAKING TIME OF YEAR. So what if it starts in November? Deal with it. Because you'll probably enjoy it.

It would be one thing if you were complaining that Ramadan started a month early and you had to fast for two months. But it's Christmas. It's about presents and music that has bells in it.

Yeesh, people. Complain about something else. Like people not replacing the toilet paper roll after it's done and instead just using a free standing roll, placing it on the back of the toilet when they're done.

See Milk

I saw "Milk" today and it was awesome. It was a great film. Please go see it for no other reason than for Emile Hirsch's performance. My god. I want to do him.

One of the important messages of the film is Harvey Milk's message that gay people need to come out. I know first hand the pressures of this and while I can only blame myself for my reluctance in doing so, I will say that societal pressures didn't really make coming out any easier. It is not hard for gay people to feel as though their struggle is isolated. Most kids, unless they do the research themselves (and many, out of fear, will not), don't hear about gay history; they don't realize that their struggle is one that's been going on for a very long time in the U.S. If they know that they're not alone and that many brave men and women not only came out, but also fought for their rights long long long before them, then those young closeted men and women will be far less afraid to come out, themselves. That's why this movie is important: if young people see that this man existed, was running for office as a gay man in the 70s, they will ask themselves what the hell they're doing in the closet today, in 2008, 09, and so on.

We NEED to teach kids gay history in high school American History classes. We cannot rely on them to see movies like Milk. Harvey Milk's story and the gay civil rights struggle in general cannot be left out of public education. If we do so kids will see that their struggle is not their own but one we've all been fighting for for a very long time. If the public schools do not teach it or purposely ignore it, then it will strengthen in those kids the feeling that there is something wrong with it; that homosexuality is looked down on by their schools and teachers.

Maybe they do teach it now and I'm just ignorant, I hope I'm wrong and let me know if I am, but I know I didn't hear a word of it when I was in high school.

If a teacher really wants to change a students life: teach them gay history.

Never underestimate the mood-altering properties of a good episode of 30 Rock and Nestle Toll House Ready Bake Cookies.
